Pens, Probes, and Inkwells

DPN® Probes and Pens

NanoInk offers a wide variety of delivery options for creating nanoscale structures. It is possible to begin development, simply experimenting with a single probe (Type A or B probes) and ink system. Experiments can then be scaled up with 1 dimensional passive pen arrays ranging from 3 to 52 individual cantilevers. Finally, massively, parallel deposition is possible using the 2D nano PrintArray™, a 55,000 pen chip.

DNA Probe Arrays

DNA Probe Arrays are passive multi-probe arrays customized for DNA deposition. Because of the viscous nature of DNA, DPN methods for deposition require a very stiff cantilever exhibiting high spring constants relative to standard contact probes. It is also desirable to have a system where multiple cantilevers may be loaded with different inks, therefore improving throughput. NanoInk has developed an inkwell system which includes a 12-cantilever array, specifically designed for multiple DNA Probe arrays.

Features:

  • Silicon nitride probes
  • Passive multi-probe arrays
  • Arrays with both writing and reading probes
  • Large-area coverage and/or multi-ink patterning
  • Specifically designed for DNA inks

Active Pen™ Arrays

Active Pen Arrays are specifically engineered for flexible and multiplexed nanopatterning. By using thermal bimorph technology, individual cantilevers can be actuated to enable multi-ink writing without any cross-contamination or unintended surface patterning. Additionally, reader tips can be left clean to image surface patterns, or address specific surface structures without unintentional inking.

Features:

  • Active, multi-probe arrays
  • Large-area coverage and/or multi-ink DPN patterning
  • Arrays with both writing and reading probes

Product:

Type T1 Active Pen Arrays (Product Number: PEN-0101-01)

Available in quantities of: 10 pen arrays

Large area, nanoscale patterning, with 2-dimensional multi pen arrays

2D nano PrintArray™ Chips

The 2D nano PrintArray Chip provides a high-throughput solution to flexibly pattern nanoscale features. Taking single-tip DPN as the starting point, the 2D nano PrintArray retains the direct write, high resolution, ambient deposition, chemical and material flexible attributes of DPN, while multiplying the desired pattern 55,000 times across a 1 cm2 area. It is the only way to flexibly create so many nanoscale patterns - for etch resist, templating, or biological applications - across such a large area.

Features:

  • Silicon nitride probe array chips
  • 55,000 probes
  • Large area patterning

Product:

2D nano PrintArray Chip Package (Product Number: PEN-0301-01)

Available in quantities of: 10 pen array chips

DPN® Inkwells

Universal Inkwell

NanoInk has developed micro-fluidic inkwell arrays for selective ink delivery to DPN probe tips. DPN Inkwell Arrays are available as:

Universal Inkwell Arrays

The Universal Inkwell solution was specifically designed to overcome the problem of delivering a solvent-based ink to one (or several) tips among a pen array without cross contamination.

Cross contamination poses a serious problem for DPN researchers. However, with a redesigned Inkwell solution including recessed InkCliffs, selective ink delivery is consistent and clean. With Universal Inkwells, an ink/solvent solution is delivered to one of six Inkwell reservoirs via a micropipette. Six unique molecular inks are possible on each Inkwell chip. The ink is then guided through microchannels to the microwell, where the tip will dip and be coated with ink.

Product:

Universal Inkwells (Product Number: IWL-0009-03)

Available in quantities of: 10 inkwell arrays or full wafer (78 arrays)

For use with all NanoInk DPN Probes (single and multi-probe arrays)

See the Inkwell Arrays Datasheet: DS007 for more details and specifications.

Inkwell Arrays C-8MW

Inkwells C-8MW (Product Number: IWL-0021-01)

Available in quantities of: 10 inkwell arrays or full wafer (78 arrays)

For use will all NanoInk DPN Probes (single and multi-probe arrays)

See the Inkwell Arrays Datasheet: DS007 for more details and specifications.

DNA Inkwell Arrays

NanoInk has coupled the DNA Probe Arrays with a special multiple inkwell design, with matched pitch to these tips. Up to six different DNA inks may be loaded into the special micro-fluidic reservoirs and thus a single inkwell array is capable of loading one 12-tip probe array with 2 tips of each DNA ink. Alternatively, use of 2 of the six reservoir chips allows each of the 12 tips in the array to be loaded with a unique material.

Product:

DNA Inkwells (Product Number: IWL-0030-01)

Available in quantities of: 10 inkwell arrays

For use with DNA Probe Arrays
